The weather is warming up and that means all we want is something cool and refreshing to drink. That’s where this Watermelon Basil Slush comes in. It's hydrating, so refreshing and super tasty!

If you're looking for more ways to cool off when it's hot out, we also love this Frozen Strawberry Lemonade. This slush is also great for backyard barbecues and get togethers. Try it with this Simple Vegan Cucumber Salad.

ingredients

The best part part about this slush is there are only 2 ingredients, watermelon and basil.

  • basil

See recipe card for quantities

instructions

Simply freeze half of your fruit and chill the other half in the refrigerator. Toss all the fruit and as much basil as you like into the blender. There’s no need to add any liquids since watermelon is mostly water, there is enough liquid in the refrigerated melon to get everything slushy. In about a minute you’ll be sipping on this surprisingly delicious and refreshing summery drink.

Add cold watermelon cubes, frozen watermelon cubes and basil to blender.

Blend until watermelon and basil have broken down and well combined.

Garnish with basil, if desired and serve immediately.

Hint: This recipe can be easily scaled up to make larger batches. Use equal amounts of frozen and refrigerated watermelon along with desired amount of basil.

variations

  • Herbs - try fresh mint instead of basil
  • Flavors - add fresh squeezed lime or lemon juice and omit herbs
  • Adults only - add rum or vodka for cocktails

equipment

For this recipe, you will need a good blender for the best texture.
