Cooking and baking doesn't require fancy gear to create something delicious. While some items are nice to have, you really only need a few basic items to get started. Below is a list of the tools I use regularly in my kitchen and consider must-haves and a few that are useful, but not required.
Cookware
Saute Pan
One of my most used pans is a deep sauté pan.
- Great for: sauces, pasta dishes, tofu!
- Stainless steel: easy to use, no special utensils or scrubbers needed.
- What I love: Easy to clean, durable and long lasting, nonstick if used properly.
Cast Iron Skillet
Cast iron skillet are great to have for a variety of recipes.
Great for: skillet cookies, gratins, cornbread and much more!
Baking
Loaf Pan
- Great for: quick breads, ice cream.
Muffin Pans
- Great for: sweet and savory muffins, fun potato sides, and French toast cups!
- Go for light colored pans. Bakes evenly while dark pans tend to cook too quickly.
Helpful Items
The items below are nice to have, but not required. Recipes on this site that use these tools include alternatives so you can still make the dish.
Instant Pot
This is the particular model I have, but really any of models are very useful.
- Great for: pressure cooking, sautéing, air frying, and so much more!
Silicone Baking Mats
Silicone mats are a great eco friendly choice since they are reusable, which also saves money in the long run.
Food Processor
Another tool that gets a lot of use in my kitchen.
Great for: candy, date paste, parmesan topping!
