A classic flavor pairing with the added surprise of beet, this Strawberry Banana Beet Smoothie is sweet, creamy, and totally kid approved.

Strawberry Banana Beet Smoothie

We all know how healthy beets are for us by now, but getting the little ones to eat them can be quite the challenge. Beets are just one of those veggies a lot of kids really hate. Smoothies are a great way to "sneak" in a serving of those veggies the kids just won't eat. Is it dishonest? Sure, but as long it's healthy for them and most importantly tastes good it is really such a bad thing? Two of my little ones love beets and one hasn't quite come around yet, but you know what? All three of them love this Strawberry Banana Beet Smoothie. Yep, sneaky veggies for the win!

Of course, I let them in on my little secret after they enjoyed some of the smoothie and guess what, no one cared. All that mattered was that is tasted yummy!

Beet powder, literally just dried beets that have been ground to a powder, is my secret weapon for this smoothie. There's no need to wash or peel beets, (also no stained fingers or counters because no matter what I always seem to get juice everywhere), so this smoothie comes together quickly. Just scoop and blend. You get the nutrition of beets without any prep work.

When purchasing beet powder you want to look for a brand that is free of added sugars and any other additives. I use this brand.

If you can't get beet powder or just want to use fresh, you can absolutely do that. Wash, peel, and chop a small raw or roasted beet and add to the blender. The flavor will be a little different.

You might expect the beet flavor to be overpowering, but it's really not. Strawberries and bananas are the dominant flavors and really sweeten everything up. You get just a subtle flavor from the powder that goes nicely with the berry-banana combo. It's so good in fact the kids have asked for this smoothie more than a few times already.

Loving the bright pink colour! I love a good smoothie, but I'm still so scared to make a smoothie with anything savoury (like avos, beets etc.). Maybe one day I'll have the courage 🙂
